Setting up a home server with Centos 5 Server and Fedora 7 clients

My goals:
1. Set up a home media and file server with 200GB of hard drive space running a stable, secure OS.
2. Have a central telephone directory accessible from all home computers.

Sources:
Hard drive: 200 GB purchased on Ebay. Cost: ????
OS: Centos 5.0. Picked because of stability, long support cycle, long release cycle. (I didn't feel like upgrading the server every 6 months when a new Fedora release came out.)

Discussions:
I knew that I wanted Fedora to be the OS on the client systems because of its excellent user interface, polished looks (better than ubuntu IMO), and excellent multimedia support when the livna repositories are used. Fedora seemed liked the best client to meet my user needs, while Centos seemed like the best OS to meet my server needs.

Getting Started:
1. I bought a 933 Mhz Dell computer with 384 MB of ram on Ebay. I installed the 200 GB hard drive. The computer was $?????.
2. The computer had a cd drive, therefore DVD installation was impossible. I did not want to download all of the Centos intallation cds So here was my workaround. I downloaded CD 1 of Centos 5 and did an internet install. I did this by burning the disk 1 iso image to a blank cd, booting the computer with that cd, and typing linux askmethod at the boot prompt.
3. I chose FTP as the installation method after checking my cd.
4. I used Duke University as my download site ==> address was mirror.linux.duke.edu directory was /pub/centos/5.0/os/i386/

I am currently at this step, I will post more later...
